About
Wasted Evangelism

“I have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I only know what I can do.”
~Young Captain James T. Kirk, Star Trek, Into the Darkness, the movie

“Excellence is . . . caring more than others think is wise; risking more than others think is safe; dreaming more than others think is practical. Expecting more than others think is possible.”

   ~Winston Churchill

Someone once asked me, “Chip, what is your dream job?” I responded without hesitation. “A job where I connect non-poor churches to the issues of poverty and justice.”

Whenever someone attempts to redefine terms like “gospel” or “evangelism,” one must tread carefully for hallowed ground is being disturbed and sacred pillars are being moved.
However, in light of Mark’s association of the kingdom with the gospel (1:14–15) and the gospel’s programmatic association with the Exodus land-laws, I propose that biblical social action is a means to ensure that the blessings and benefits of living in society reach to the poor.

Purpose of Wasted Evangelism

Picture
The purpose of Wasted Evangelism is to connect Christians and churches to the issues of poverty, the poor, and, as well, to connect to those seeking to address the issues of poverty.
  • Connecting Christians and churches to the issues of poverty and to those who live with the effects of poverty
  • Connecting Christians and churches to those that address the issues of poverty and minister among the poor
  • Opening up texts of the Bible to reveal an association of the Christian faith to the poor and to issues of poverty and justice
  • Offering instruction, training, and development assistance to Christians, churches, and organizations seeking to address the issues of poverty in their communities

Wasted Evangelism Site Pages and Content
About: A expanded description of the Wasted Evangelism concept and the purpose of the Wasted Evangelism website. You can also find the "contact" page under this heading.
Wasted Blog: This blog seeks to provide my thoughts on the subject of the Christian faith and the issues of poverty. The blog will offer opinion essays and thoughts, links to resources and "Wasted Evangelism in Action," and will interact with the issues of poverty, as well as exposition of biblical passages that connect the Christian faith to the issues of poverty and to the poor.
Wasted Evangelism Engagement: The tap links the visitor to Wasted Evangelism in Action, that is organizations and churches that seek to address the issues of poverty, as well as Wasted Evangelism events; also the training and speaking opportunities available through my efforts to connect Christians and churches to the issues of poverty.
Books and Resources: This tab links the visitor to my Wasted Evangelism book and my lay-comentary on Philippians; also, there are links to resources that I consider Wasted Evangelism worthy to help Christians and churches to connect to the issues of poverty and to the poor.
Learning Local in The Hill: The last tab is my own incubator of "on the ground," "real time" Wasted Evangelism. I am a co-pastor of a congregation in The Hill community of New Haven, Connecticut. The ministry allows me to have a place and space to apply my exegetical conclusions from the Wasted Evangelism studies in the book. Remember, the good people here in this community are not an experiment, but still it allows me to learn to make real what I believe to be true about the gospel, and specifically social action and evangelism.
